The internal structure of the corporations will be changed to give
greater importance to research & development, sales and service while the
processing ability, which is relatively stronger, will be optimized.
II. General development of the domestic machinery industry
According to the National Statistics Bureau, the total number of the
State-owned machinery corporations and non State-owned corporations whose
individual annual sales revenue is more than 5 million yuan was 40,700 in
2000.
The total number of employees in these corporations was 12.548 million.
Their total amount of assets was 2,496.3 billion yuan. The total
industrial output value was 1,884.68 billion yuan while the industrial
added value hit 480.06 billion yuan. The total sales revenue amounted to
1,781.94 billion yuan and the profit was 65.77 billion yuan. The
above-mentioned figures account for about 20-25 percent of the relevant
national figures respectively.
In the machinery industry, the number of State-owned corporations
accounts for 69.8 percent of the total. Their assets account for 70.8
percent of the total and their profits account for 41.5 percent.
The number of Sino-foreign joint ventures, cooperative businesses and
exclusively foreign-owned enterprises in China accounts for 15.7 percent
of the total. Their assets account for 25.1 percent of the total and
their profits account for the 49.9 percent of the total.
In terms of product structure, the amount of heavy mechanical equipment
for investment accounts for about 80 percent of the total production
while the number of the light mechanical products for daily life accounts
for 20 percent of the total.
1. Status quo of production and management of the domestic machinery
industries
(1) The machinery industry serving the agriculture sector.
The situation of the agricultural machinery industry market has been very
harsh in recent years. In 2000, the total number of the State-owned
agricultural machinery corporations and non State-owned ones was 2,517.
Among them, losses incurred in 791 corporations, which account for 31.43
percent of the total number of the corporations. This figure is 8.81
percent higher than the average level in the machinery industry as a
whole. The sales revenue of the agricultural mechanical products is
98.641 billion yuan and the profits are 1.536 billion yuan.
They decreased by 2.7 and 20.7 percent respectively as compared with the
figures of last year. This is the only shrinking industry of the
machinery industry as a whole concerning output and profits.
2)The machinery industry serving the engineering sector.
In 2000, the total number of State-owned engineering machinery
corporations and non State-owned ones was 296. The total sales revenue
was 17.511 billion yuan and the total profits were 917 million yuan,
which increased 22.3 and 40.7 percent respectively from the figures of
the previous year. The output volume of some main products such as
hydraulic-pressured grabs, automobile cranes and loading machines
amounted to 800, 3,428 and 21,000 respectively.
(3)The machinery industry serving the instrument and apparatus sector.
In 2000, the number of State-owned and non State-owned machinery
corporations with certain scale serving the instrument and apparatus was
1,411. The total sales revenue was 75.011 billion yuan and the total
profits were 3.870 billion yuan, which increased by 21.9 and 76.7 percent
respectively as compared with the figures of the previous year.
(4)The machinery industry serving big mine projects.
In 2000, the total sales revenue of these corporations was 49.592 billion
yuan and the total profits were 695 million yuan, which increased 13.5
and 97.5 percent respectively from the figures of the previous year.
(5)The machinery industry producing machine tools.
After five consecutive years' negative growth and 13 years' losses in the
whole industry, the machinery industry serving machine tools began to
develop quickly in 2000. The total sales revenue was 50.448 billion yuan
and the total profits were 1.685 billion yuan, which increased 29.8 and
370 percent respectively. The sales revenue even ranked fifth in the
world.
(6)The machinery industry producing electronics and electrical equipment.
In 2000, the total number of the State-owned and non State-owned
machinery corporations producing electronics and electrical equipment was
7,459. Among them, losses incurred in 1,604 corporations, which account
for 21.4 percent of the total number of the corporations. However the
reconstruction of the electrical networks in the urban and rural areas
and the development of the mainframe products in the field of mechanical
electronics promote growth of this machinery industry.
