A government-appointed special shop of fireworks and firecrackers in the
west of Beijing's Xizhimen was making preparations on Jan.17 for opening
and selling safe fireworks and firecrakers scheduled several days later.
Beijing published the administrative regulations on fireworks safety last
Sep., limiting fireworks and firecrackers within the city's fifth ring
road region. Citizens may set off fireworks and firecrackers on Chinese
New Year Eve, the Chinese New Year's Day, and 7a.m. to midnight from the
second to the 15th of the first month in Chinese lunar calendar.
